On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of ACEEEO, electoral experts, members of electoral management bodies, academics, members of the Association and also representatives of the media gathered in Budapest to participate in the roundtable discussion „ACEEEO25 – European cooperation for free and fair elections”. The discussion was held by Zsolt Szolnoki, the Secretary General of the ACEEEO, who examined the developments in electoral processes since 1991 with experts, and with those who had been closely related to the Association since its foundation.
The Secretary General exchanged ideas with Richard Soudriette, former President of the IFES, honorary member of the ACEEEO and Márta Dezső, professor emerita at Eötvös Loránd University, election expert of the ACEEEO who were both present at the establishment of the Association in 1991. William Hybl, Board Member of the IFES pointed out the specialities of the elections in the Central and Eastern European region in comparison with other continents were IFES provides electoral assistance.
Zoltán Pozsár-Szentmiklósy, assistant professor at Eötvös Loránd University, former member of the National Election Commission of Hungary talked about the current tendencies in electoral procedures around the world. Lefterije Luzi, President-in-Office of the ACEEEO, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Albania expressed women's role in the electoral management and the challenges that the electoral management bodies should face nowadays. She also explained the ways how ACEEEO can help their works in the every days.
