4 February 2016
On 4 February the ACEEEO Community celebrated the Global Elections Day for the 11th time. Almost half of the ACEEEO members have already joined us in celebrating the GED on the first Thursday of February each year. This celebration gives a great opportunity on a national level that brings together all stakeholders to share experiences in the democratic process of their country.
The 2005 GEO Conference decision opened new perspectives in acknowledging the important work of election officials, commemorating the democratic achievement and bridging citizens with the work of election administrators. The main goals of this day are confirming our belief in the irreversibility of democratic processes; informing the public of new achievements and challenges related to various types of voting systems; draw the attention of parliaments, governments, politicians and world leaders on the importance of their leadership role that they play in promoting a culture of democracy and high levels of voter participation; influencing first-time voters and young voters to commit themselves to democratic values.
