On 5th February, the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Moldova (CEC) celebrated Global Elections Day. CEC organized a briefing for mass media, where the Chairman, dr. Iurie Ciocan reiterated Commission’s commitment to democratic values and gave assurances that it will maintain and develop an open, transparent and professional institution, always ready to perform tasks at the highest level in an electoral accessible frame.
Also, CEC held the Open Doors Day for a group of students from the Institute of International Relations from Moldova. This action of civic education has the aims to familiarize young people with various aspects of the Commission's work and to make them aware of elections. Students also had the opportunity to participate in a Mock Elections. They practiced the roles of voters, observers, media representatives and officials of electoral bodies, each fulfilling certain obligations.
During the week, members and staff representatives from CEC gave a series of lectures on "Vote consciously" for students from the universities from the Republic of Moldova. The goal of the seminars was to familiarize young voters with the legal and practical issues related to the organization and conducting elections in the country, their electoral rights and obligations and to motivate them to be active and to get involved in the electoral process.
