The 1st Electoral Expert Debates, devoted to ‘Electoral Law and New Technologies: Legal Challenges’ took place on 12-13 April 2016 in the Amphitheatre of the Central University Library of Bucharest. The event was organised by the Venice Commission in co-operation with the Permanent Electoral Authority of Romania (PEA).
The Scientific Conference aimed to highlight the types of technologies that can be used in elections, the electoral processes’ stages where their use is beneficial and the risks the openness of electoral legislation to new technologies involves. National case studies on Austria, Germany, Brazil, Estonia and Romania were also discussed.
The event was attended by experts from more than 10 countries and representatives of international organisations active in the electoral field. The ACEEEO Secretariat was represented by Stepan Ahiy, program manager.
